Relational Schema Design & Structural Modeling

Architect resilient, highly scalable relational database structures with strict referential integrity using HeidiSQL's visual table editor.

Syllabus & Engineering Modules

SYLLABUS
  • 1. Relational Normalization (1NF through BCNF): Identifying functional dependencies, separating repeating groups, and evaluating when pragmatic denormalization is justified for high-read throughput.
  • 2. HeidiSQL Table Structure Management: Configuring column datatypes (INT, BIGINT, DECIMAL, VARCHAR vs TEXT), NULLable flags, character sets, and collation settings.
  • 3. Foreign Keys & Integrity Constraints: Establishing parent-child relationships, setting ON DELETE CASCADE / RESTRICT rules, and auditing orphaned rows.
  • 4. Index Architecture: Defining composite keys, unique constraints, and understanding primary key clustering mechanics in InnoDB.
  • 5. Migration & DDL Schema Evolution: Generating clean CREATE / ALTER scripts in HeidiSQL for deployment via version-controlled CI/CD migration pipelines.
Hands-On Architecture Labs: Students build realistic e-commerce, telemetry, and inventory database models from initial requirements to complete normalized schemas.
